David J. Barry, 91, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Thursday, September 19, 2024 after a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Joan M. (Fisher) Barry for 64 years. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Henry F. & Gertrude (McCarthy) Barry.
David was raised in Winchester. He was a graduate of Boston College High School, Boston College, and earned his MBA from the Carrol School of Management. David served his country in the United Stated Army from 1955 – 1957. He began his career with the Service Bureau Corporation of IBM and Honeywell, and went on to retire from Nynex, now Verizon Yellow Pages in 1996. In his retirement he would work the weekly auctions at ADESSA.
David was an active parishioner of St. Bridget Church in Framingham where he served as lector and eucharistic minister. He enjoyed golf, working in his yard, reading his many newspapers, and travelling with Joan. He was an avid fan of all New England sports teams. David cherished his family. He took pride in all of his grandchildren’s many activities and accomplishments. David’s greatest pleasure in life was to be Grampa to his grandchildren.
Besides his loving wife Joan, David is survived by his children, Michael & his wife Denise of Natick, Kevin & his wife Karen of Southborough, Patrick & his wife Nancy of Hudson, Joanne Dillon & her husband Patrick of Milford, Maureen Dutile & her husband Jeff of Framingham, and Eileen of Marlborough, his grandchildren, Michael Barry, Renae Barry, Colleen and Alex Roy, Molly Dillon, Ryan Barry, Courtney Dutile, Andrew Dutile, Matthew Dutile, and Brian Dutile, his brother John and wife Anne of Burlington, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, David was predeceased by his siblings, Henry F. Jr., and Gertrude Cooke.
Family and friends will honor and remember David’s life by gathering for visiting hours at the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Tuesday, September 24th from 4-7PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock in St. Bridget’s Church, 830 Worcester Road, Framingham. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham.
