FRAMINGHAM – The Fitchburg State men’s ice hockey team used three second period goals to defeat Framingham State in MASCAC action Saturday afternoon in Framingham. 

The Falcons won 4-0

Prior to the game the Rams honored their six seniors playing in their final season: #9 Zach Bettmeng, #11 Ricky Walsh, #6 Bryan Whelan, #8 Trevor Lewandoski, #37 Jake Garman & #3 Brian Kozek. 

Fitchburg improves to 13-5 overall and 11-3 in the Conference.

Framingham State falls to 2-14 overall and 1-10 in the Conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

  • The two teams skated to a fairly even first period until the Falcons broke it open in the second. Twenty ticks into the second frame Anthony Ceolin chipped in a pass from Hunter Fortin for the 1-0 lead.  
  • Just about five minutes later Gene Bouthiette found the back of the cage with a helper from Egan Wolford and moments later Wyatt Wilmshurst scored on the power play after a setup from Joshua Miller.  
  • The Falcons scored shorthanded with just over six minutes to play when Bouthiette scored his second of the game to reach the final margin.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Falcons held a heavy edge in shots on the day outshooting the Rams 57-to-19.  
  • The Rams were 0-for-5 on the powerplay while the Falcons were 1-for-3 on the man advantage.  
  • Blake Carlson made an impressive 53 saves in the loss for the Rams while Brian McGrath made 19 stops earning the shutout for the Falcons.   

UP NEXT: The Rams return to the ice Tuesday evening when they travel to Salem State for a 7pm MASCAC matchup. The Falcons head to UMass Dartmouth on the same evening.
