On Thursday, April 17th, New England Revolution players, academy coaches and staff visited Harmony Grove Elementary in Framingham for an installment of their “One Region, Many Roots” clinic series.
The Framingham students, many of which are of Brazilian heritage, met with Revolution forward Malcolm Fry, a Homegrown Player from Groton, Mass. who ascended to New England’s MLS roster at 18 years old. Fry, who speaks four languages fluently, answered questions from the students in Portuguese and English before leading the students in a soccer activities. The students also learned about careers in sports outside the lines as they heard from Leonardo Ziviani, the Revolution’s Business Intelligence Supervisor, about his career working in the sports industry.
“I think it’s really important, because I was one of these kids not that long ago,” Malcolm Fry said. “I can vividly remember being like them and just wanting to play all the time. I lot of them are asking me, ‘Can I be a pro?’ It’s important to give an example that you can make your dream come true. I’m just having a blast playing and hanging out with them.”
The ”One Region, Many Roots” clinic series celebrates the cultures that make up New England, highlighting the diverse backgrounds of our players, fans, and communities. The clinic series visits schools across the region to connect with students through soccer and educational discussions. The week prior, the Revolution visited Clark Avenue Middle School in Chelsea, Mass. for the first of three youth clinics in April. Next week, on April 24th, the program will see Revolution players and staff visit the Veronica Robles Cultural Center in Boston.
