WORCESTER – Clark University’s men’s soccer team scored two goals on visiting Framingham State in the first half as the Cougars secured a 3-0 victory over the Rams from Granger Field.
Clark is now 3-1 on the season.
Framingham State is still seeking its first victory of the season and is 0-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Anyolo Makatani scored his first collegiate goal for the Cougars as he raced past FSU for a loose ball, and perfectly placed it. Makatani was assisted by first-year William Lopez, his first collegiate assist.
- In the 40th minute, Clark widened their lead when senior Derek Jones scored his first goal of the season with a well-placed high corner shot. Ezekiel Pamer recorded his first assist of the season on the play.
- In the 43rd minute, Framingham State nearly got on the board when Gabriel Padilla took an uncontested shot. Cougar goalie Andrew DiStefano made a superb save to keep the shutout intact.
- Clark graduate student Patrick Clark scored his first goal of the year on a beautiful shot, assisted by Olivier Pierre and Alex Maiorano.
- In the 82nd minute, DiStefano made another sharp save on a shot by FSU’s Shawnd Chambers.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Both teams attempted 13 shots throughout the game, with the Cougars putting eight shots on goal, and the Rams putting five on goal.
- With five saves in the game, DiStefano raises his season save percentage to 84.6%
- James Hartshorn made three saves in the net in the first half for the Rams before giving way to Joseph Sturzo who turned away two Cougar attempts.
- The Rams totaled eight corner kicks in contrast to Clark’s singular corner.
UP NEXT: The Rams return to Maple Street Field on Saturday morning when they host UMass Dartmouth for a 10 a.m. non-conference matchup.
