BOSTON – The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has extended a mandatory flu shot for all childcare, preschool, K-12, and higher education students from December 31, 2020 to February 28, 2021.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced over the summer that all students would need the influenza shot before Dec. 31.

“The new vaccine requirement is an important step to reduce flu-related illness and the overall impact of respiratory illness during the COVID-19 pandemic,” the state said.

There is a medical or religious exemption allowed.

The influenza vaccine is not required for students who are homeschooled, unless they participate in extracurriculars on a public school campus.

Higher education students who stay completely off-campus and are engaged in remote learning.
