FRAMINGHAM – The Summer Discover camp at Keefe Technical High School has been cancelled for the summer of 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We we are cancelling this year’s Summer Discover Program,” wrote Summer Discover Director Ken Collins to families today.

“At this time, we will shift our focus to ensuring a fun, safe and healthy program in summer 2021. I want you to know that this decision was not made lightly,” wrote Collins.

“Over the past couple months, the Summer Discover Team at Keefe Tech has worked tirelessly to examine every possible angle to make summer camp a reality,” wrote Collins.

“We have carefully considered the guidelines and recommendations set forth by the CDC and the state and local health departments. We looked into modifying our program plans, re-examined medical practices, and evaluated staffing requirements while considering these guidelines. Despite these efforts, we have concluded that there is too much uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 for us to confidently operate a safe and high-quality camp this summer. As disappointed as we all are, we will not compromise when it comes to the safety and well-being of our campers and staff,” wrote Collins.

“After seeing close to 60% of you expressing that you would not send your child to camp under the current conditions, coupled with the numerous refunds we already processed, it is clear that holding camp this year would not be a viable option,” wrote Collins to families.

“Once we are ready to re-open next summer, we will welcome you all back with open arms. We encourage you to contact us if you need additional clarity or support in the coming weeks. Families that are registered for camp will be refunded.  Checks will be sent out to families as soon as we can but please be patient as we process all the refunds in full. We will assure you a spot in 2021 as we optimistically prepare for next season. We know our campers and staff will miss this time together.  All of us are in this together. I hope all of you stay well and continue to share these times with your family,” concluded Collins.
