NATICK – After many years of struggling and trying to manage multiple chronic illnesses, John finally decided it was time for him to rest.

John was born in Natick, Feb. 29,1952 to Alvan S. and Dorothy M. (Munro) Hodgson. He was raised in Natick and graduated from Natick high school. He played trumpet in the school marching band.

He attended Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester where he met his wife, Karen. They married and settled in Beverly. John started his career in jewelry at Stern’s Jewelry in Lynn and worked for Prime Jewelers of Lynn, for Ross and Longs Jewelers as well as Shreve Crump and Low in Boston. He enjoyed his work and had a very high standard of customer service. He was a member of Dane St Congregational Church where he sang in the choir, played trumpet in the church brass band and the men’s brass band.

His greatest joy was his family, his children and his grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and Pa. He enjoyed all the holiday preparations, cooking and decorating and helping the grandchildren bake pies for Thanksgiving, decorate Easter eggs and helping them in the annual Easter egg hunts. John loved the beach and treasured the many summer vacations on Cape Cod and then later traveling to Bermuda, Marco Island, Aruba, Punta Cana, Port St Lucie Florida and Puerto Rico.

He leaves behind his wife, Karen with whom he shared 50 years, 2 daughters, Tara S. and her Husband Steven Withee, Jill and her husband Paul McGinnity, His sister Janet and brother- in-law Bill Anderson of SC, his 5 grandchildren, Noah, Munro, Isabella, Colton and Grace. Many nieces and nephews and an estranged son, John.

A funeral service will be held in the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street Beverly on Thursday September 8, 2022 at noon. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Visiting hours will be held prior from 10 a.m. to noon.
