Worcester State Sweeps Doubleheader Against Framingham State

WORCESTER –  The Framingham State University baseball team was swept Saturday by Worcester State by scores of 4-3 and 9-1 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at Lyons Diamond in Worcester.

With the wins, Worcester State improves to 10-3 in the Conference. The Lancers are now 16-11 overall.

Framingham State drops to 9-19 overall.


Game 1: Worcester State 4, Framingham State 3 

  • The Lancers capitalized on a Ram error to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. 
  • Worcester extended the lead to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double from Chris Ausiello and a sacrifice fly by Tom Halliwell. 
  • The Rams closed the gap to 3-2 in the top of the fifth when Ryan Boyle reached on an error that allowed Lucas Basile and Evan Kirkpatrick to score. 
  • Halliwell’s second sacrifice fly of the game pushed the lead back to 4-2 in the bottom of the sixth. 
  • The Rams capitalized on another Lancer miscue to pull within one in the top of the seventh, but that was as close as they would get. 
  • Boyle and Kennedy Wilson each picked up a pair of hits in the game. 
  • Vincent LoGuidice took the loss for the Rams going five innings allowing three runs, none earned, on four hits with two strikeouts. 

Game 2: Worcester State 9, Framingham State 1 

  • In game two, the Lancers plated nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to open up a large lead. The Lancers received two RBI apiece in the inning from Anthony Iamarone, Brett Blackwell and Sean Devin. 
  • The Rams plated their lone run of the game in the top of the seventh when Wilson scored on a double play ball. 
  • Ben Smith earned the win for the Lancers going five shutout innings allowing just one hit. 
  • Jack Foley took the loss for the Rams going three innings and allowing seven runs, five earned, on six hits.T  

UP NEXT:  The Rams are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Salem State for a doubleheader at 2 p.m.
