NATICK – Janette (Hubbard) Hancock, of Natick, died on April 1, 2022 at the age of 91.

She was the oldest daughter of three children, born to John L. Hubbard and Elizabeth D. Hubbard in Weston, on March 26, 1931.

After graduating High School, Janette married and moved with her husband, Donald B. Hancock to Reading, where they lived for many years with their beloved huskies. Janette loved animals and was a devoted pet owner throughout the years. Janette worked for many years as a telephone operator and then as the office manager in a medical practice.

In retirement, Janette enjoyed working at a local candy store. Janette was a talented cake decorator and made specialty cakes for family members. Her nieces were especially delighted by the doll cakes she made for their birthdays. Janette was very fond of her many nieces and nephews and delighted in hearing of their activities and successes in life. Janette loved to frequent local farmer’s markets and knew of all the best places to pick wild blueberries. Janette had a wonderful sense of humor, was positive, and always found a way to make others laugh.

Throughout her life, Janette remained especially close with her late brother Paul and wife Betsy. Janette was devoted to her late mother, Elizabeth Hubbard, and in later years, assumed a full-time caregiving role for her mother. Janette was also devoted to her late sister Carolyn, and in later years, Carolyn’s children found comfort in Janette’s presence and positive support after their mother’s passing in 2011.

Janette is predeceased by her husband, Donald B. Hancock of Reading , sister, Carolyn (Hubbard) Floridia of Wayland and Marlborough brother Paul C. Gebhardt Sr. of Concord NC (survived by wife Betsy (Dumas) Gebhardt), mother, Elizabeth D. Hubbard and father, John L. Hubbard of Framingham, nephew Paul C. Gebhardt Jr. of Harrisburg NC (survived by wife Valerie K. Gebhardt), and nephew Mark A. Floridia of Hudson,.

Janette is survived by nephew Stephen M. Floridia (MA), niece Susan E. (Floridia) Francis and husband William (MA) niece Deborah A. (Floridia) Tibbetts and husband George (NC), niece Nancy E. Floridia (MA), and great-niece Emily A. Francis (MA); nephew Peter A. Gebhardt and wife Donna (NC), nephew David B. Gebhardt and wife Janine (NC), great-nephew Christopher M. Gebhardt (NC), great-niece Heather (Gebhardt) Hensley (PA), great-niece Ashlyn Blair Daniels and husband Erick (NC), and grand-niece Kora Elizabeth Daniels (NC). Janette is also survived by many nieces and nephews by her marriage, and their descendants.

Janette also leaves behind a dear friend, Mary MacDonald, who was like a daughter to Janette. She and Mary spent many enjoyable times together and their friendship was a joy to both women.


Janette’s family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff at Medway Country Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehab center for the excellent and compassionate care that Janette received.


Family and friends will honor and remember Janette’s life by gathering on Tuesday morning, April 5 in Edgell Grove Cemetery, 53 Grove St. Framingham, at 11 o’clock to celebrate her graveside services. 

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial gifts in Janette’s memory may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago IL 60601, www.alz.org,  or to the Massachusetts Siberian Husky Rescue, www.husky.rescueme.org.
