]CLERMONT, FLORIDA -The Framingham State University softball team picked up a pair of victories this evening first defeating Springfield College 4-3 and closing the night with a 6-3 triumph over Carroll (Wis.) at the Spring Games in Florida.

Framingham State improves to 4-4.

Springfield College is now 6-2.

Carroll is now 6-4.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

Game 1: Framingham State 4, Springfield 3 

  • Springfield grabbed the early lead with a run in their first at bat of the game on an RBI single from Sam Witmer. 
  • The game remained 1-0 in favor of Springfield until the Framingham offense erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. A Gruca doubled down the leftfield line scoring a run and Zoe Smyth plated the second with a fielder’s choice. Mercedes Jimenez got in on the action with an RBI single and Grace Swanson plated the final run on a base hit to left. 
  • Springfield rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to close the gap to one, 4-3, but that was as close as they would get. 
  • Caroline Hughes earned the victory in the circle for the Rams going four and a third allowing three runs, two earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts. 
  • Ally Moran earned her first save of the season going the final two and two thirds allowing no runs on no hits with four strikeouts and a walk.   
  • Jimenez finished the game with a pair of hits, a run scored and an RBI, while Shelby Roode tallied two hits. 

Game 2: Framingham State 6, Carroll 3 

  • The Rams stuck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Roode plated the first run with a sacrifice fly and Kelsey McGuill added an RBI single. 
  • Carroll answered with a pair of their own in the bottom of the inning on a two run homer from Learman tying the game. 
  • The game remained deadlocked at 2-2 until the Rams put up four in the fifth taking the lead for good. Gwendolyn Carpenter singled with the bases load and Roode added her second sacrifice fly of the game.  Swanson and Carpenter scored on wild pitches to account for the final two runs of the frame. 
  • Carroll added a single run in the seventh to reach the final margin. 
  • Emily Strzegowski started in the circle for the Rams going three and a third allowing two earned runs on four hits. 
  • Moran came on in relief earning the win going the final three and two thirds allowing one run on four hits. 

UP NEXT:  The Rams are back in action on Monday at the Spring Games when they face Wisconsin-Lacrosse and St. Lawrence.
