FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Fire determine a gas leak caused a small fire at a Framingham pizzeria on Saturday night, February 19.

Firefighters were called to Friendly Pizza at 125 Waverly Street due to a “small fire that was extinguished by the Class K suppression system, on the grill,” explained Framingham Fire Chief Michael Dutcher.

Engine 3, Engine 5, Rescue 1, Ladder 3 & Car 2 responded. 

“After a quick investigation, the cause was a small leak in a gas line feeding a grill that was eventually ignited by the pilot,” explained Chief Dutcher. “The class K system was able to extinguish the fire.”

The fire chief said a “witness from the taco store across the street,” who reported the fire, “saw the fire grow slightly.” He also witnessed the fire go out but still saw smoke.

Chief Dutcher said “there was an odor of gas once we entered so we immediately shut down the gas, metered and vented the building Eversource responded to evaluate the leak and recommend appropriate repairs.”
