FRAMINGHAM – Framingham High announced a new interim Dean of Students.

“It is my privilege to inform you that Ms. Hannya Lord has been offered and accepted the position of Interim Dean of Students. Ms. Lord’s start date is Monday, January 24, 2022,” announced the Principal in her weekly email to families.

Lord previously served the Framingham Public Schools as the high school’s SLIFE Coordinator, SLIFE teacher, and the high school’s ESL Evening Academy Coordinator.

“SLIFE students are English learners who have experienced interrupted education due to war, civil unrest, migration, or other factors; who have never had the opportunity to participate in any type of schooling before entering school in the United States; or who have experienced limited education in their home countries due to lack of resources or trained teachers, the type of schooling they participated in, or other circumstances.”

The district’s SLIFE program is at Fuller Middle School and Framingham High.

The Dean of Students at Framingham High provides”daily leadership and management of student supervision in structured and unstructured settings via proactive, highly visible interaction with students, staff, bus drivers, and substitute teachers; they will also offer building, student, staff supervision in the absence of the Principal and Vice-Principals. The Dean of students will work with discipline and behavioral issues that arise with the student body. Developing close relationships with students and vice-principals, the Dean will oversee specific behavior plans for students who are challenged by the large high school environment. The Dean will also serve as the first point of contact for the Resiliency for Life program in order to deliver Framingham Public Schools’ high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, the achievement of academic proficiency for all students, and the closing of the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.”

The position is a part of the Administrators Contract.

The salary was not available at this time.

Essential duties of the Dean of Students includes:

  • Assure supervision of unstructured student activities including but not limited to:
    • Lunches/Recesses
    • Hall Passing
    • AM and PM Buses
    • PM Collaboration
    • Flex Block or any other unstructured time for students
    • Assist with AM and PM Late Bus Supervision Arrival/Dismissal
    • Assist with after-school student monitoring
    • Handle discipline referrals
    • Support co-curricula programming
    • Staff evaluations
    • Facilitate the management of the school in the absence of the Principal/Associate Principal/Vice Principals
    • Assist the administration with student suspension re-entry meetings
    • Participate in Crisis Team meetings
    • Support the 8th-grade transition to high school, including organizing Step-Up Day and visiting each of the middle schools in the Spring
    • Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Principal

In November 2021, Framingham High’s first-ever dean of students announced he was resigned to pursue a real estate career. Omawali Stewart’s final day was December, 23, 2021.

The position was created in fall 2019.

Framingham High has a principal, an associate principal, four vice principals, and a dean of students.

There are more than 2,400 students at Framingham High School, according to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, of which the largest class is the freshman class with about 650 students.

This year, the high school decided to get rid of grade vice principal and counselors and went with a house model.
