DARTMOUTH – The Framingham State University volleyball team returned to the court after a year away and dropped a pair of hard fought matches by identical scores of 3-2 against UMass Dartmouth and Western New England.

Framingham State is now 0-2 on the season.

Western New England is now 2-0

UMass Dartmouth is now 1-1

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Match 1

  • In the opener, the Rams took the first and third set by scores of 25-19 and 25-14, while Western New England took the second and fourth by scores of 25-22 and 25-14 before sealing the victory 15-11 in the deciding frame.
  • The Rams received 12 kills in the match from junior Brandee Thomas, while sophomore Valerie Sullivan added nine.
  • Emily Flaherty paced the defensive effort with 16 digs, while Morgan Failla and Thomas chipped in with 13 apiece.
  • Failla also recorded 29 set assists, while Isabel Henwood added three service aces and eight digs.

Match 2 

  • In the second match, the Rams once again took the first and third sets 25-10 and 25-23. The Corsairs edged the Rams in the second and fourth 25-23 and 25-22 before taking the fifth 15-7 to secure the victory.
  • Thomas once again paced the Rams on the attack with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Sullivan and Hailey Sanders chipped in with 10 kills apiece. Sanders also added four blocks.
  • Flaherty once again paced the back row effort with 14 digs, while Failla chipped in with 36 assists and 16 digs.

UP NEXT: The Rams are back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Western New England for a match at 7 p.m.
