FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham Traffic Commission held their first hybrid meeting on Tuesday, July 20. Attendants participated from both the Ablondi room in the Memorial Building and via Zoom.

The meeting began with the election of new officers. City of Framingham Chief Engineer Bill Sedewitz was the only person nominated for chair and was unanimously re-elected to the position.

Framingham Public Schools Executive Director of Finance and Operations Lincoln Lynch IV was unanimously elected vice chair. The term for both positions is through July 2022.

The Traffic Commission is comprised of 8 members. There is a currently a vacancy on the Commission, with the resignation of at-large member MaryAnn Flaherty. The Mayor has yet to appoint a replacement.

While discussing current traffic rules and approaches, the Commission decided that it would be useful to establish a subcommittee. Commissioners Sedewitz, Steven P. Croci, and Brinsley Fuller were unanimously elected to the subcommittee.

The subcommittee will help to develop ideas by making decisions on certain traffic issues and reviewing signs and other safety precautions currently in place.

Over the next few months, the Commission is hoping to review signs throughout the city and add more where needed. The Commission wants to address traffic signs over the fall and parking signs throughout the winter.

The Commission’s Fiscal Year 2022 budget, which began on July 1, was level-funded at $64,000.They hope to engage organizations

The City Council recently approved a capital request of $150,000. The Commission has yet to decide how to spend the money.

The meeting came to a close with a reflection on this past year and a review of the Commission’s goals.
