FRAMINGHAM – Last month, the entire Veterans Services office in the City of Framingham tendered its resignation.

SOURCE reported both the Director of Veterans Affairs and the Assistant Director of Veterans Affairs gave their notice, with Monday, May 31 – Memorial Day – one of their final days.

Until a new director can be hired, formed Framingham Director of Veterans Affairs is filling in temporarily.

Peter Harvell, who worked as the Veterans Services Agent and led the Town of Framingham Veterans Department from 2008 to 2017, began working for the City of Framingham as of June 6, he told SOURCE.

Harvell attended the Framingham Veterans Council meeting earlier this week.

Harvell is still working for the Town of Lincoln on Thursdays he told the Veterans Council.

A retired lieutenant colonel , he came to Framingham in 2008 after four years as the Sudbury’s director of veterans services. Harvell is a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Army.

Craig Sullivan was the Assistant Director under Harvell, when Framingham was a Town. A U.S. Coast Guard Veteran, Sullivan was named interim director when Harvell left, and eventually was appointed Director of the Veterans department by Mayor Yvonne Spicer in 2018. He served as director only about 3 years, before announcing he was leaving.

The City of Framingham is still advertising for a Director of Veterans Services.
