FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Public Schools is not eliminating any positions for the 2020-21 school year, but 28 individuals did receive pink slips as part of the annual non-renewals clause allowed under the Framingham Teachers Association Unit A contract.

Annually, school leadership can decide that a non-tenured teacher is not working out and give them notice that they are not being asked back for the following school year.

That notice was required to go out on June 15.

Framingham Public Schools sent out 28 non-renewal notices.

According to the Massachusetts Teachers Association, Chapter 71, Section 42, states that nonprofessional status teachers (PTS) are “employees at will.”

This means that employment may be terminated by the employer for any reason or for no reason.

If a teacher has not served 3 consecutive school years in a school district under an appropriate license, they do not have professional teacher status, and are subject to non-renewal status.

Framingham Assistant Superintendent of Schools for Human Resources Inna London said the district plans to fill all 28 positions for the 2020-21 school year.
