STONEHAM – Framingham High senior captain Will Trischitta scored with less than a minute left in double overtime, to advance the Framingham High boys ice hockey team to the Super 8 Tournament tonight, February 23 at Stoneham Rink.

Flyers defeat Reading High 3-2.

It was Trischitta’s 20th goal of the season, and it came at 7:05 in the second 8-minute overtime.

The Flyers will play the #1 seed Arlington next.

The first four Super 8 (MIAA Division 1A tourney) games had been booked for Loring Arena on February 26 and 27, but the MIAA wants to move the Framingham game to the Ice House in Canton.

UPDATE: Game will be played at Loring Arena. Framingham vs #1 seed Arlington High on February 27 at 7:30 p.m.

Reading vs Framingham

Framingham got on the scoreboard quickly against Reading at Stoneham Arena Sunday night.

Thomas Duane scored at 1:23 to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead, which they held through the entire first period.

At about 10 minutes into the second period, Shawn Golden tied the game for Reading.

But about two minutes later, Duane scored his second goal of the night to give Framingham a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Reading’s Jake Donovan scored with 0.4 seconds left in the game to send it to overtime.

The score remained 2-2 after the first 8-minute overtime.

In the second overtime, MIAA rules dictate a 3-on-3 format. The two teams battled through both overtimes, until Trischitta’s game-winner with less than a minute left in the second overtime.
