Frederick C. “Rick” Dugan, 90, cherished father, brother, uncle and friend and a longtime resident of Framingham passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

Born in Springfield, MA he was the son of the late Albert P. & Laura (Ballard) Dugan, and the beloved husband of the late Margaret A. “Peg” (Major) Dugan.  Spending most of his younger years in Springfield, he then attended Valley Forge Military Academy in PA, and went on to graduate from Springfield’s Classical High School. He served our nation honorably in the US Navy during the Korean War.  During his years of service, he shared his love of music while playing the flute and piccolo in the US Navy Band in Naples, Italy.  Upon his return stateside, Rick attended UMASS Amherst. It was while working for Friendly’s as a manger in Lee, where he ultimately met his bride, Peg. A new career within Honeywell brought them to Framingham where they would raise their family. He eventually started his own consulting business where he worked until his retirement. He was a hardworking man of strong character who also had an enormous heart. Rick spent many years volunteering as a chapter leader and then regional coordinator for the Compassionate Friends Organization, a support group for parents and families who have lost children.

An avid reader, Rick enjoyed many hobbies including bowling, photography and camping.  Spending summers on Long Lake in Bridgton, ME in earlier years led to more distant travels with Peg across the country, to Europe and the Caribbean and eventually brought him and Peg to their annual trips to the island of Barbados, making new friends along the way everywhere they traveled.

Rick is survived by his daughters, Susan A. Paradis of Lunenburg, Kathleen M. Dugan & her husband Michael Barrett of Lunenburg, and Maureen E. Becker & her husband Kevin of Peabody, his cherished grandchildren, Kevin Paradis & his wife Heather, Kayla Paradis & her partner Dan Jazwinski, Jared Smith & his partner Kory Desmond, Sammy Barrett & her partner Ellis Toll, Joshua Becker, Katherine Barrett, and Mars Becker, his great grandchildren, Jace Becker and Dax Paradis, and many treasured nieces and nephews.

Besides Rick’s beloved wife Peg, he was predeceased by their son Lawrence “Larry”, his sisters, Barbara Farrington, Gene DaPrato, and Francis Hallinan, and his son-in-law, Greg Murphy.

Family and friends will honor and remember Rick’s life by gathering in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Thursday December 7th, with calling hours from 9:30-11am.  The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11am, concluding with interment in St. Stephen Cemetery.
