FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham State University baseball team was defeated 3-1 and 14-4 by Worcester State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action Saturday afternoon at Bowditch Field. in Framingham.    

Worcester State improves to 14-16 overall and 8-5 in the MASCAC.

Framingham State Rams drop to 19-12 overall and 9-5 in the Conference.

Game 1: 

  • The Rams grabbed the early lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from Ryan Boyle. 
  • The Lancers took the lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI double from Xavier Quezada, a sacrifice fly from Joe Auger and an RBI single from Zack Roberts. 
  • The Rams loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the sixth, but Cole Glassburn was able to record the final out of the inning keeping the score 3-1 in favor of the Lancers. 
  • The Rams threatened again in the bottom of the second with runners on first and second, but the Lancers were able to record the final out and secure the victory. 
  • Glassburn earned the win going six and two thirds, allowing one earned run on six hits with seven strikeouts. Danny DiMassimo earned the save as he recorded the final out of the game. 
  • James Gilleran took the loss for the Rams going six innings allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits with five strikeouts. 
  • Steven Burbank finished the game 3-for-3 for the Rams, while Chris Ausiello finished with two hits for the Lancers.

Game 2: 

  • The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a solo homer to left from Boyle, but the Lancers tied the game in the top of the second on a solo homer from Anthony Iamarone. 
  • The Lancers plated four runs in the fourth and another in the fifth opening up a 6-1 lead. 
  • Iamarone added his second homerun of the day – a two-run shot in the in the top of the fifth – as the Lancers scored four in the inning extending the lead. 
  • The Rams received a two run double to center from Burbank in the bottom of the fifth cutting the deficit to 10-3, but the Lancers added four more in the top of the sixth. 
  • The Rams capped the scoring in the game in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Evan Kirkpatrick. 
  • Kevin Zarnoch earned the victory for the Lancers going seven innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. 
  • Adam Martin took the loss for the Rams going four innings, allowing six runs, two earned, on six hits with six strikeouts. 
  • Burbank finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Rams, while Iamarone finished the day 4-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBI.
