FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Superintenent of School Bob Tremblay sent an email to Framingham High students and families this afternoon, February 24, one week after the false active shooter alert went off at the high school.

SOURCE is publishing the full email below:

I am writing to personally follow-up on the message that I sent earlier today, largely directed to FHS staff, not to simply restate the findings of the investigation of last week’s incident which has already been made available to you, but to acknowledge the trauma that was felt by you, as students and parents/caregivers in Framingham.

To our students who rightly count on school as a safe place for learning and social development, I am sorry that your world was unnecessarily shaken last Friday. I cannot even imagine the fear that must have overtaken you as you sheltered silently with your classmates or as you ran from the school campus. Your actions were courageous and selfless. Please know that your school district is committed to accountability for those actions and to better serve you as we move forward.

To our parents/caregivers who entrust the care of your children with us, I can only imagine your fear as you tried to make sense of hurried texts or panicked calls from your loved ones as they sheltered in place or ran from school to find safety. As a parent of three children myself, with one still in high school, I can only empathize with the drowning feelings of helplessness that must have overtaken you all and I’m sorry that you had to experience this trauma.

I hope that with time and with opportunities for reflection and restoration that we can heal as a school community.

We appreciate your continued confidence in the Framingham Public Schools as we recover from this deeply impactful and regrettably traumatizing learning experience.

Framingham High students have been on vacation this week. They return to the high school on Monday, although it will be a delayed start.
