FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham High wrestling team defeated the Tigers of Newton North, in their home opener last night, December 21.

The Flyers won 60-15, winning their first seven matched to take a resounding lead and the victory eventually.

This is the Flyers second win of the season. They defeated Milton High on the road and are now 2-0 in the Bay State Conference

The Flyers are 2-3 overall having opened the season on the road against non-league opponents Timberlane, Andover, and Noble out of Maine.

Head Coach Erik Delehanty was impressed with his lightweights last night.

“All three of them are sophomores, and wins were hard to come by last year as freshmen in the varsity lineup. Wins have haven’t been easy for them,” said the head coach. “At the beginning of the season, I talked to them and said we’re going to win dual meets if we can get production out of those three. And all three of them came up big. I think we got two pins and a late take down for points. To get three wins in those matches at those weights that kind of put us in a nice momentum and I think the kids fed off of those guys.”

Framingham wrestler Blake Brandolini started off the night for the Flyers at 106 pound weight class, winning his match via a pin.

Flyer Kizen Semprum won against Rob Rujoe at the 113 weight class, via pn.

Jake Trostel, at the 120 pound class, defeated Kushjot Carwall.

Trostel was down a point with 11 seconds left in the match, but he took down his opponent to earn the win, said his coach.

Coach Delehanty said the Flyers this season are a really “young team.”

“A lot of work needs to be done, but they’re a group that is attentive and they pick up and they fix mistakes. So we’ll be back in practice tomorrow and fixing those little mistakes,” said the head coach.

One of the Flyers learned from his mistake last weekend.

Joe Skura pinned the Tigers Dylan Leone last night at the Framingham High gym.

“On Saturday, he lost to that same wrestler. He got pinned by that kid. For Joey to lose three days ago and then come back and pin, was huge,” said Coach Delehanty.

Other Flyers who won last night include Dan Sullivan at 126, Diego Rivera at 132, and Derek Bilton at 145.

Senior captain Charlie Cosgrove won his match against Jacob Demeo at 160 pounds.

At 170 pounds, Bubba Kabongo defeated Brad McNew

Heavyweight Alexi Florian defeated Newton North’s Marcus Davis to end the wrestling meet.

Next up for the Flyers is the Balboni Holiday Classic tournament at Framingham High on Friday, December 30 starting at 9 a.m.

Framingham is also launching a middle school wrestling program for boys and girls in grades 5-6-7-8. Click here for more information on the free program.
