WAYLAND — Acting Chief Ed Burman said the Wayland Police Department and its local law enforcement partners held a successful “Shop with a Cop” event yesterday.

The “Shop with a Cop” event was held Thursday, December 16, at Walmart in Framingham.

Wayland Police and law enforcement partners from Framingham, Natick, Ashland, Holliston, Westborough, and Hopkinton helped spread holiday cheer to hundreds of children in need.

About 400 children participated, each one assisted by an officer from one of the departments. Children were given $50, donated by police officers, to spend on any time of their choosing. Community partners provided additional donations.

The MetroWest “Shop with a Cop” event was started by Framingham Police in 2015 along with the Ashland, Holliston, and Natick Police Departments. Since 2015, the event has grown to include additional departments across the MetroWest. During this time, MetroWest police departments have provided clothes, toys, food, bedding and support to more than 2,700 children and families in the area.

“I want to thank our local law enforcement partners for joining us in this wonderful event to give back to those in need this holiday season,” said Acting Chief Burman. “I would also like to thank the Walmart employees for welcoming us and helping us bring smiles to these kids throughout the day. If we made at least one child’s wish come true this holiday season, then I consider it a success.”
