FRAMINGHAM – Police are warning residents of an apartment rental scam.

A person tried to put a security deposit on an apartment via Facebook, and lost $300.

The apartment did not exist.

The U.S Department of Housing & Urban Development advises “Never pay with cash, wire transfers or gift cards. If anyone tells you to pay this way, it’s a sure sign of a scam. Wiring money is like sending cash — once you send it, you have no way to get it back.”

Check out the apartment in person before making any deposit.
