FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham Public School district’s bus vendor NRT is still short 17 bus drivers for the contracted 77 routes, which means hundreds of students who want a seat on the bud have been denied, as the month of October begins.

But the bus driver shortage is also impacting the Framingham High fall athletics teams, yet again.

This morning, the Weymouth High athletic director tweeted out that the field hockey game scheduled for today, October 3, were postponed due to a “transportation issue in Framingham.”

Sunday, the girls swim & dive team were scrambling for parents to drive the athletes to their swim meet against Milton High on Monday afternoon, as a bus was not available.

But then a bus became available – a Dracut School Bus.

So the Flyers took a Dracut school bus to Blue Hills Regional Technical High School in Canton so the Framingham Flyers could swim against the Milton Wildcats.

The Framingham High athletic department does have a couple of shuttle buses it has been using for small teams. like the boys golf team. But teams with a lot of athletes, like soccer, are too big for them.

Framingham Athletic Director Paul Spear has also begun renting coach-style buses for teams, when NRT buses are no available.

Last week, the Flyers girls swim & dive were driven in a Coach bus to their meet against Notre Dame Academy of Hingham in Duxbury.
