FITCHBURG – The Framingham State University women’s cross country team opened the season yesterday, September 3, with a third place finish at the Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational hosted by Fitchburg State University.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Rams finished third overall with 48 points, behind second place Fitchburg State and first place UMass Dartmouth who had 44 and 41 points respectively.
- The Rams top finisher was Emily Newcomb who crossed the line in second place with a time of 21:53.8 which was just under a minute behind the winner Alexa VanVoorhis from UMass Dartmouth.
- Meghan Johnston was the second Rams to cross the line in seventh place with a time of 22:15.4 for the 5K course.

- Jemma DePasquale and Camille Carvalho were the next to complete the race in 11th and 12th with times of 23:20 and 23:22.
- The Rams had four more Rams crossing the line to round out the top 20 finishers. Kelsey Gendreau and Leah Chace crossed at 23:53 and 24:00, while Amanda Bedard and Kate Simpson followed at 24:26 and 24:50. .
The Rams are back in action on September 17, when they travel to UMass Dartmouth for the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
