WESTBOROUGH – The Massachusetts AFL-CIO is giving its support to Westborough’s Kate Donaghue in her campaign for state representative in the 19th Worcester District.

“We are proud to support candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to the values and principles of the labor movement,” wrote Steven Tolman, president of the Massachusetts chapter of the labor organization. “We look forward to advocating on your behalf and working together to create a brighter future for working people in Massachusetts.”

Donaghue welcomed the endorsement of the group which promotes issues ranging from worker-focused economic and workforce development, to green jobs and tax fairness.

Donaghue, whose son struggled with substance abuse disorder and died of an overdose in 2018, added that she shares the AFL-CIO’s dedication to addressing the devastating addiction epidemic affecting Massachusetts residents.

“Both before and after my son’s death, I have testified for increased insurance coverage for substance use disorder,” Donaghue said. “Since my son’s death, I have been active in advocacy around substance use disorder, speaking to groups on the topic and hosting annual advocacy events to commemorate my son’s death with action.”

The 19th Worcester District includes Westborough (precincts 1,2,3,5 & 6), Southborough, Northborough (precincts 1, 2 & 3) and precinct 21A in Framingham.
