FRAMINGHAM – Joseph F. McCarthy, Jr., 80, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Monday August 29, 2022 after a brief illness. Born in Watertown, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Sr. & Doris (Gildea) McCarthy

Jay was raised and educated in Watertown and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School. A Second All Star Scholastic Athlete and star catcher. Following his time with the National Guard he returned home and married the love of his life, Jeannette (Quinlan) moved to Framingham, became a Firefighter with the Town of Framingham, and began raising their family.

Following the family footsteps of his father and may before him Jay enjoyed a 31 year career with the Framingham Fire Department. Never one to slow down he was the sexton for 25 years at St. Anselm Parish in Sudbury, Jay loved the beach, a good round of golf, and all Boston sports.  Nothing gave him more pleasure then watching his children and grandchildren in their sporting events over the years.

Besides his wife Jeannette, Jay is survived by his daughter Gail M. Klein, and sons Joseph T. & his wife Patricia, Brian, Daniel & his wife Kara, all of Framingham, his grandchildren, Joseph R. and Patrick M.  Klein, Timothy J.M., Ryan F., Lucas Casagrande, and MacKenzie R., his siblings, Carol O’Grady & her husband Michael of Framingham, Robert & his wife Dorothy of Watertown, Paul of Waltham, and Edward & his wife Janice of Billerica.  Jay was predeceased by his sister, Dianne McKinnon who recently passed this year.

Jay is also survived by his two sister in laws Jeraldine Faherty of Framingham and Patricia Busconi of Watertown, his former son in law and partner in beating Lymphoma Michael Klein, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends will honor and remember Jay’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Tuesday, September 6th from 4-8PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday morning in St. Anselm Church, 100 Landham Rd., Sudbury at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery. 

The family would like to thank Jay’s fabulous Doctor and Nurses on North 8 with Tufts Medical Center, and the wonderful nurses with the ICU team at MetroWest Medical Center.
