BOSTON – The Massachusetts House of Representatives voted to override a veto by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker on a bill that would allow undocumented individuals to get Massachusetts driver’s licenses.

On May 27, Baker vetoed a bill allowing the licenses.

Today, June 8, 119 state representatives voted in favor of an override and 36 voted against, around 2 p.m.

A two-thirds vote in both the House and Senate is required to override a gubernatorial veto.

The Massachusetts Senate is expected to take up the Work and Family Mobility Act on Thursday, June 9.

The House’s vote was expected.

If the bill finally becomes law, it would make Massachusetts the 17th state to take such a step, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
