BOSTON – The National Weather Service issued an alert for strong thunderstorms until 10 p.m.

At 837 p.m., Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Fitchburg to near West Boylston. Movement was east at 35 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail.

Strong winds could cause minor damage such as downed branches. Little to no impact from hail is expected.

Locations impacted include Worcester, Lowell, Lawrence, Waltham, Medford, Methuen, Arlington, Leominster, Fitchburg, Billerica, Marlborough, Woburn, Chelmsford, Andover, Lexington, Dracut, Tewksbury, North Andover, Reading and Burlington.

Get indoors when you hear thunder. Do not resume outdoor activities until at least 30 minutes after the storm has passed. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.
