ASHLAND – William Michael O’Connor Sr, 69, a lifelong resident of Ashland, passed away unexpectedly at his home. 

He was the son of the late Conrad and Priscilla (Lydon) O’ Connor. 

“Billy O Sr.” worked as a plumber in the MetroWest area for many years. 

He was also an avid Boston sports fan, never missing a Patriots’ game and he also was known for his ability to answer obscure sports trivia questions. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing and coaching recreational sports, primarily men’s softball, in which he gained the nickname “Coach”. Billy O also had a fondness for animals that began while he grew up on Waseeka Farm where he tended to and showed horses along with his family.

Billy O is survived by one daughter, Kelly Sean O’Connor of Ithaca, NY.  He was the father of the late Sean Michael O’Connor and the late William Michael O’Connor. 

Visiting hours will be held Friday May 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street in Ashland.

A graveside burial service will be held Saturday May 21 at 11 a.m. in Wildwood Cemetery, Chestnut Street in Ashland.

There will be a celebration of life in Billy O’s honor at the Ashland VFW, 77 Pleasant Street in Ashland, MA at 1 p.m. on May 21.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Baypath Humane Society, 500 Legacy Farms North, Hopkinton, MA  01748
