Hopkinton Police’s Annual Fishing Derby Saturday

HOPKINTON – Hopkinton Police Chief Joseph Bennett said the Hopkinton Police Association will hold its annual fishing derby on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.,m. to noon at the Hopkinton Sportsmen’s Association at 95 Lumber Street.

The event is for Children age 15 and under and it is free, but you must register.

Parents/guardians can register participants by filling out and submitting an online form, found here. Participants can also register in-person on the day of the event.

The first 150 participants to register for the event will receive a free t-shirt.

The Hopkinton Police Association has arranged for the pond to be stocked with fish. Participants will start fishing at the same time and compete until the end of the derby.

At the end, trophies will be given out to the winning participants.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment. A limited supply of fishing poles and tackle will be available for participants who need to borrow equipment.

“Events like these are some of our favorite days of the year. The fishing derby means a lot to the Hopkinton Police Association,” Officer Matthew LaTour said. “It’s a chance to get together and do something that puts a smile on the faces of a lot of people. I love fishing so this was something I naturally wanted to be involved in. This will be my first time participating so I’m very excited and I’m looking forward to meeting more people in town.”
