FRAMINGHAM – The fourth seed Framingham State University softball team rallied from a 5-0 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings en route to a 7-6 come from behind victory over sixth seed Salem State  in an elimination game of the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Tournament at Maple Street Field in Framingham.

With the win Framingham State improves to 20-17.

With the loss Salem State Vikings sink to 10-27.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:  

  • After four scoreless innings, the Vikings plated a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning.  Sydney Chiasson and Rebecca Walker each recorded RBI singles in the frame. 
  • The Vikings pushed the lead to 5-0 with three in the top of the sixth.  Stephanie Grassi plated the first with an RBI single and a pair of runs scored on an error by Rams. 
  • The Rams ot on the board in the bottom of the sixth when Kelsey McGuill reached on an error scoring Gwendolyn Carpenter. 
  • The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with four runs.  Brooke Grassia reached on an error making the score 5-2.  Carpenter followed with a sacrifice fly to left and Mercedes Jimenez reached on an error on a dropped pop up scoring two.

  • In extra innings, the Vikings took the lead in the top of the eighth on a double from Emily Carter taking a 6-5 lead. 
  • The Rams loaded the bases in the bottom of the eighth and Shelby Roode delivered a two-run game winning single. 
  • Ally Moran earned the win for the Rams going two plus innings of relief, allowing one run on one hit with a strikeout. 
  • Caroline Hughes started in the circle going five and two thirds allowing five runs, two earned, on nine hits with six strikeouts. 
  • Carter took the loss in the circle for the Vikings tossing a complete game allowing seven runs, four earned, on nine hits with three strikeouts. 

UP NEXT:  With the victory, the Rams advance in the Tournament and will face Worcester State on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Bridgewater in an elimination game.
