FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham State University men’s basketball team was defeated 74-62 by MCLA Monday evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action at the Athletic Center on the campus of Framingham State University.

Framingham State falls to 3-18 overall.

MCLA improves to 8-10 overall.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • The Rams saw a trio players record double figures led by 14 points from Jahden Erold. Erold connected on f-of-10 from the field and added two rebounds, four assists and a steal. 
  • Trevor Manyak and Brett Okundaye tallied 10 points apiece off the bench for the hosts.  Manyak connected on 4-of-6 from the floor and added five rebounds, while Okundaye connected on five of 10 with five boards. 
  • JD Okafor finished the game with nine points and six rebounds, while Keith Hollman tallied eight with seven boards.

  • The Trailblazers were led by a game-high 21 points from Hayden Bird. Bird connected on 7-of-15 from behind the arc to go along with two rebounds and two steals. 
  • Noah Yearsley finished the game with 20 points on 8-of-15 from the floor and added three rebounds and an assist. 
  • Quentin Gittins recorded the game’s only double double as he scored 13 and grabbed 12 boards while handing out seven assists. 
  • Reece Racette chipped in with eight points and five boards, while Bright Afful added seven points and four boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • The Trailblazers jumped out to an 8-2 lead after back-to-back three-pointers from Bird just under three minutes into the game. 
  • The Rams answered with six straight tying the game on Hollman jumper with just under 15 remaining in the half. 
  • Leading 14-13, the Trailblazers rattled off a 10-0 run capped by a Yearsley jumper taking a 24-13 lead with just over six to play in the first. 
  • The Rams cut the deficit to eight on an Ivan Nyantenji three, but the Trailblazers pushed the lead back to double digits and headed to the locker room leading 37-22. 
  • Trailing 44-28 six minutes into the second half, the Rams rattled off an 8-0 run capped by an Okafor layup to pull within ten at 44-34. 
  • The two teams traded points until back-to-back threes from Yearsley put the visitors up 56-40 with eight to go. 
  • The Rams closed the gap to 64-51 on a Manyak jumper with just under three on the clock, but MCLA answered with a three and a pair of free throws from Gittons pushing the lead back to 16 with under two remaining.  The two teams traded points in the final minute to reach the final margin. 

UP NEXT:  The Rams and the Trailblazers are back in action Wednesday evening when they meet in North Adams at 7:30 p.m.
