MARLBOROUGH – Ruth “Ruthie” (Nicholas) Marlowe, 93 of Marlborough died Wednesday, January 5, 2022. She was the wife of the late William P. Marlowe who died in 1970.

She was born, raised and educated in Marlborough, the daughter of the late Spiro and Marigo (Stamos) Nicholas.

She is survived by her four daughters, Donna M. Peltak, Francine L. Marlowe, and her fiancé Larry Metcalf of Marlborough. Sheila A Poirier and her husband Bill of Hampton, NH; Paula J Marlowe and her fiancé Michael Whitney of South Yarmouth, MA; her beloved granddaughter Marlowe A Peltak  and her fiancé Derek Lyons of Hudson, MA; two great grandchildren Olivia and DJ Lyons; eight nephews, and nieces, Coral, Steven, Karen, Christopher, Matthew, Frank, Jimmy & Diane; sister-in-law Carolyn Nicholas of Tewksbury; her “adopted” children Patty Seymour and Bob Howes. She was pre-deceased By her son in law, Bobby Peltak, two nephews, Blaine & David and her 5 siblings, Thomas, Julia, Robert, Lillian & Richard.

Ruthie took pride in her Albanian heritage. Her parents owned a local bakery which she started working there at a very young age.

She married the love of her life but sadly he was in a fatal accident which left her with four  daughters at the age of 42. With the love and support from her family (the Nicholas’ & Hinckley’s) she managed to bring up her daughters and passed on her work ethics to them.

While bringing up her family she worked at her brother Bobby’s “ Hole in One Donut Shop” , her brother Nicky’s store, American Optical and New England Telephone Learning Center.

Then she met her calling – The Marlboro Police Station. She happily worked there as a matron for 25 years.

When she (reluctantly) retired, she was happiest with Marlowe, Livy & DJ on their visits and weekly journeys.  Ruthie loved playing cards and going to lunch weekly with the “Golden Girls” Jeanne, Teddy, Lilly and Julia.

She also enjoyed Bingo with Lena, Hampton Beach with her family and of course listening to Frank Sinatra.  She also enjoyed watching the Patriots. Tom Brady could do nothing wrong in her eyes.  She loved going to the Labor Day parade and was a fixture on French Hill.

The family would like to thank the incredible 3rd floor staff at Beaumont Rehabilitation & Skilled Nursing Center in Northborough, MA. Their kindness and care during Ruthie’s difficult stay was deeply appreciated. Brenda, Kristen, Ashley, Sam & Chris all went above and beyond to make her comfortable.

There will be no calling hours and a private burial at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the best memorial contribution is to remember the wonderful life Ruthie embraced with her family and friends.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Collins Funeral Home, 378 Lincoln Street, Marlborough, MA 01752. All our invited to sign Ruthie’s on-line guestbook at www.collinsfuneral.com
