FRAMINGHAM – “Bay” the missing Basenji was found today, April 6, after having been missing for almost five years.

Bay originally went missing from her dog sitter’s home while her owners were away back in June of 2016. There have been periodic sightings of the dog over the years, but nothing was ever caught on camera and no one was able to successfully contain the dog.

Bay was found largely in part due to Missing Dogs of Massachusetts (MDM), an all-volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to reuniting owners with their missing dogs.

MDM Volunteer Danielle M. had been keeping in touch with Needham homeowners Jon & Lisa, who had reported of seeing the dog multiple times. Danielle and fellow MDM Volunteer Deb B. then got in contact with Needham Animal Control Officer Parsons, who began to help with the process.

Last week, Danielle, Deb, and Parsons started to assemble panels for a kennel trap in the yard of homeowners Jon & Lisa, warming the dog up to the panels of the kennel trap and allowing her to get used to them.

This morning, April 6, the team was successfully able to trap Bay, located 9 miles from where she first went missing.

Bay is now safe and in the arms of her joyous Framingham owner.

More than anything, this is assurance to other pet owners who may have lost their beloved that anything is possible!

Bay was found after 5 years, and your pet can be, too!
