FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham City Council unanimously approved Dr. David Moore to the Framingham Board of Health tonight, April 6.

Dr. Moore had been re-nominated to the Board by Mayor Yvonne Spicer.

The mission of the Framingham Board of Health is to protect, promote, and preserve the health and well-being of all residents of the City of Framingham.

Under Massachusetts General Laws, state and local regulations and community direction, the Board of Health is held responsible for disease prevention and control; health and environmental protection and promoting a healthy community.

The 3-member Framingham Board of Health serves as the local extension of both the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection

Dr. Moore, who lives in District 1, is the current vice chair of the Board.

Dr. Moore “holds 48 years of experience with a background in Medicine, Emergency care, EMS teaching, and Medical Core Volunteer,” wrote Mayor Spicer in submitting his nomination to the 11-member City Council on March 22.

Dr. Moore has served on the Framingham Board of Health since 2010, when appointed by Selectmen. He previously served on the Board of Health in the 1980s and 1990s, too.

Gillian Carcia, a District 4 resident, serves as the chair of the Board of Health. Her term ends June 30, 2022.

Laura Housman, who is also from District 1, has a term through December 31, 2021.

The 11-member, elected City Council recently voted to petition the State to expand the Board of Health in the City of Framingham to 5 members.
