FRAMINGHAM – Last month, Elizabeth Roy, the chair of the elected Framingham Board of Library Trustees, resigned as chair and from the board.
“I am relocating from Framingham. Our family dream of living full-time closer to the coast has come to fruition much sooner than we expected. It has been a pleasure serving the Library as a member of the Board of Trustees and most recently as Chair,” Roy told SOURCE in October.
The City of Framingham has posted the position.
The City Council and the Library Trustees are seeking an individual to fill Roy’s unexpired term through December 2021.
Applications are due by November 24, 2020.
The position was posted on October 26.
After the deadline, a special joint meeting will be held between the Library Trustees and the 11-member City Council to appoint an individual for the unexpired term.
Trustees:
- Make all reasonable rules and regulations for the operation of the municipality’s libraries and for conducting the business of the board of library trustees as may be considered necessary or desirable;
- Advise and make recommendations to the Mayor for an annual operating budget for the library department. The library trustees shall advise the mayor on all matters concerning the library department, equipment and, buildings and grounds;
- Recommend to the Mayor for appointment a candidate for library director, and;
- Accept donations and manage funds in its trust.

Trustees develop polies, evaluate library activities, serve on committees and attend monthly board meetings.
No member of the board of library trustees shall hold any position in the library department for which a salary is payable from the municipal treasury, except positions receiving a stipend. No former member of the board of library trustees shall hold any compensated position in the library department
until at least one (1) year after the date on which the member’s service on the board of library trustees has terminated.
All trustees must be a resident and registered voter in the City of Framingham.
