SHERBORN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Sherborn Lieutenant David Bento have confirmed that Joshua M. Patel, 37 of Mansfield, was arraigned today in Natick District Court on the charges of motor vehicle homicide by operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, assault and battery, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding and a mark lanes violation in connection with the fatal pedestrian crash that occurred yesterday in Sherborn.

Judge David Cunis set bail at $20,000 and ordered the defendant not to drive, not to consume any alcohol, submit to random screens via a SCRAM and stay away from and have no contact with the witnesses.

The next date in this case is December 3, 2020.

On November 5, 2020, at approximately 4:42 p.m., Sherborn Police responded to Goulding Street East for a report of a serious motor vehicle crash involving an Acura MDX and a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, police located the victim, Kevin Sullivan, 40 of Sherborn, who was pronounced dead on the scene and Joshua Patel, driver of the vehicle, who was arrested and later transported to an area hospital.

The preliminary investigation suggests that Patel had allegedly been traveling eastbound on Goulding Street East at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle, exited the travel lane on the westbound side of the roadway and subsequently struck the victim on his lawn and continued across the lawn striking a vehicle that was parked.

Patel allegedly tried to flee the scene, striking a witness prior to being restrained by witnesses to the crash. When the officers arrived, Mr. Patel was allegedly uncooperative and was allegedly displaying signs of impairment.

This investigation is being conducted by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Sherborn Police and the Massachusetts State Police Crash Analysis and Reconstruction Section. Additional charges are possible.
