ASHLAND – Manuel “Sam” de Almeida Jr, 83 of Ashland passed away suddenly Mon Aug. 10, 2020. 

Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Manuel and Audrey (Henderson) de Almeida and husband of Frances (Smith) de Almeida for 61 years. 

In addition to his wife, Manuel is survived by four children, Manuel III of Ashland, Theresa Rosenberger of Hopedale, Jeffrey and his partner Erin Lynch of Oregon, and Peter of Vermont, five grandchildren, Nykolas Rosenberger and his fiancé Lauren Yeager of Alaska, Derrick Rosenberger of Hopedale, MA, Cameron Rosenberger and his wife Mackenzie of CA, Ashley de Almeida of Shrewsbury, MA, and Kyle de Almeida of VT, one great-grandson, Mason de Almeida, brother, Carlton de Almeida and his wife Leah Center of AZ, sister, Stephanie Roger and her husband Paul of VT, brother in law Walter Smith and his wife Janice, and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was the brother of the late Lorraine de Almeida.

Sam was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He loved his family and his children and grandchildren learned many things with his help. 

Sam told his family many stories of his wild teenage years, all the cars from the junkyard, his time in the Navy, and driving a tractor trailer for New England Frozen Foods.  He was a longtime member and retiree of Teamsters 170. 

With the help of family and friends, Sam built his garage, cabin, and log cabin.  He made furniture, loved to tinker, and was restoring an International Harvester tractor.  He had many happy years snowmobiling in Vermont with Bob, Russell, Phil, Bunker, Nyk, Derrick, Cam, Kyle, and Greg, and traveling the USA, Portugal, and Ireland.  Sam made the best perogies with his family on the assembly line at Christmas.  Sam, Dad, Pop will be missed so much.
