BOSTON – The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Massachusetts until 10 p.m. today, May 15.

Tornado Watch means tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area.

Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching. A

Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur. The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states.

MetroWest & Framingham is included in this watch today.

Widely scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop between 3 and 4 p.m.this afternoon in western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut, which will spread eastward into Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts through about 7 p.m.

These may produce locally damaging winds, large hail, and torrential rain, with a low risk of a tornado.

Many locations will remain dry.

A line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to move into western and northern Massachusetts around 7 p.m., then racing southeastward across the rest of the region by 10 p.m., as it gradually weakens.

The main threats with these storms will be damaging wind gusts and possibly an isolated tornado. The greatest potential for severe conditions will be in northern and western Massachusetts.
