ASHLAND – Ashland Police Officers were dispatched to Route 126 for a report of a male subject acting erratically, walking in and out of traffic, according to police.

Officers encountered the individual in front of Dairy Queen.

“The subject immediately became combative with the officers and began physically assaulting them. It required several more officers to try and physically restrain the subject. Sgt. Alberini arrived on scene and deployed his K9 Ajax on a lead. Upon seeing the presence of K9 Ajax, the subject immediately surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident,” said police.

Police said they believe the individual was “under the influence of an unknown substance.”

The individual was transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation and will be summonsed into court on pending charges including assault and battery on a police officer, said police.

“Due to the great restraint shown by our responding officers, there were no reported injuries to the subject or police officers,” said Ashland Police.

“This is just another reminder that our First Responders are still here serving and protecting the Ashland community every day. Despite the pandemic, we don’t get to stay home,” said Ashland Police.
