ASHLAND – “After consultation with several public officials and colleagues from around the state, I am making the difficult decision to cancel all town-sponsored organized events and activities for the forseeable future, effective Friday, March 13,” said Ashland Town Manager tonight, March 12.
“And all private events that are to be held on town property (like rentals of the Community Center) are cancelled as well,” Hebert said.

“Department managers that run these programs are currently preparing communications to residents about their specific programs that will be sent in the next few days,’ said Herbert.
For those that are not aware, the Ashland Public Schools will be closed tomorrow (3/13) as well.

“I fully realize that these cancellations cause extreme impacts to single residents and families alike. Although I have tried to gauge the scope and depth of those impacts, I am sure that I have not been able to identify every one. Please feel free to reach out to me directly at mherbert@ashlandmass.com and let me know if you need some accommodation. While I cannot promise anything, if they can be identified it will help our entire community come up with solutions,” announced Herbert tonight.
“Finally, there are still many people out there who feel like the attention surrounding coronavirus is sensationalized over overdramatic. I assure you that based upon the information we are gathering, it is not,” wrote Herbert. “On its face these are extraordinary measures, but they are taken in the hopes that we can prevent a spike of infections that are multiplying unbeknownst to us which will linger for a long time. This is being described as “Flattening the Curve”, a good explanation of which can be found here.”
