UPDATED: Framingham Extinguishes 2 Brush Fires

FRAMINGHAM – Firefighters have been busy on Tuesday, May 26 extinguishing two brush fires in the City of Framingham.

One brush fire was reported near the Salem End Road neighborhood on Willowbrook Drive, around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The second brush fire was reported on Pearl Street. A mulch bed caught on fire.

Both “minor” fires were extinguished quickly, said Framingham Fire Chief Michael Dutcher.

This is brush fire season.

Chief Dutcher offered several tips to help prevent brush fires:

• Make sure not to leave any cooking fire unattended and have proper means of extinguishment nearby.
• Properly dispose of smoking materials.
• Use care when fueling outdoor power equipment.
• Clear leaves and other debris from gutters, eaves, porches and decks. This prevents embers from igniting your home.
• Remove dead vegetation and other items from under your deck or porch, and within 10 feet of the house.
• Remove flammable materials (firewood stacks, propane tanks) within 30 feet of your home’s foundation and outbuildings, including garages and sheds. If it can catch fire, don’t let it touch your house, deck or porch.

· Report any yard fire as soon as it is observed or when you can safely report it.
