FRAMINGHAM – The Christa McAuliffe Charter School announced an Interim Executive Director tonight, January 31.

Chair of the Board of the Trustee Bob Berman announced Zevey Steinitz as the interim executive director.

Steinitz holds a Master of Education degree from Wheelock College and brings significant educational experience in Massachusetts public charter schools both in leadership and classroom roles. Last year she served as the Interim Executive Director at the Four Rivers Charter School, an EL school located in Greenfield.

She has also served in a leadership role at the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter Public School. The Board was impressed with Zevey’s passion for middle school and a strong understanding of and experience with the EL Education mode.

“I am honored and delighted to join the Christa McAuliffe community as a school leader.  I come to the school with almost twenty years of classroom teaching experience and significant administrative experience in two Massachusetts charter schools. As a long-term proponent of EL Education, I plan to support the school to align to its mission of building a culture of respect, responsibility, courage, and kindness, as well as engaging students in relevant, exciting, integrated studies that lead to the creation of high-quality work,” she said.

“I know that the school has experienced a lot of transition recently. I hope to join the team as a stabilizing force and provide guidance and support to “steady the ship” as it sails forward. I have spent much of my career at the middle school level. I have deep respect for these transition years and the unique opportunities we have to work with our students as they develop their confidence and sense of self. I can’t wait to meet the scholars, teachers, and caregivers that make up this unique, vibrant community. Please make a point to introduce yourself during the next couple of weeks so I can get to know you,” said Steinitz.
