FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham State University baseball team dropped a MASCAC doubleheader decision to Westfield State to close out a three-game weekend conference set Saturday afternoon at Bowditch Field in Framingham

Game 1 – Westfield State 7, Framingham State 2

 Game 2 – Westfield State 11, Framingham State 4

With the losses, Framingham State drops to 4-14 in the Conference. The Rams are now 9-24 overall.

Owls improve to 13-5 in the Conference and 22-12 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  

GAME 1

  • The Rams took a 1-0 first inning lead on Ryan Boyle’s RBI single and doubled that margin in the third when Robert Johnston scored on a wild pitch.
  • Jack Foley blanked the Owls over the first four innings, allowing one hit and striking out four.
  • Westfield State scored six runs in the fifth to take the lead, including a two-run single by Samuel Palmer.  The Owls added a run in the seventh to account for the final margin.
  • Boyle rapped out three hits for Framingham State, while Teaghin Andre suffered the setback in relief to fall to 1-1 on the season.
  • Nick Martin and Ethan Day each had two hits for Westfield State in support of Ryan Donahue, who struck out 10 over five innings to improve to 4-1.

GAME 2

  • The Owls scored in their opening at-bat before the Rams evened matters on Steven Burbank’s RBI single in the second.
  • Westfield State snapped the tie by scoring eight runs in the third, highlighted by Nick Martin’s two-run double.
  • Framingham State plated a run in the fourth on a double-play grounder and added two more tallies in the sixth, as Kevin Girardin rapped an RBI single in that frame.
  • Lucas Basile and Cameron Gilroy each scored twice for the Rams, while Anthony Panza fanned four on the mound for Framingham State.
  • Martin collected three hits and drove in three runs to pace the Owls offensively.  Ryan Robidoux went five innings to earn the win on the mound for Westfield State.

UP NEXT: Framingham State travels to Springfield, Mass. on Tuesday to take on Western New England in a non-conference outing at 3:30 pm.  Westfield State hosts Wheaton on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
