Torres is Ready to Work for Everyone as District 9 Framingham Councilor

FRAMINGHAM – Today I am formally announcing that I am running for District 9 Councilor. I have submitted my nomination papers to the City Clerk and will be on the ballot for the November 2nd election.

After spending time in Puerto Rico to take care of my grandmother and volunteer with the American Red Cross Puerto Rico chapter disaster services, I have returned to Framingham to continue the work I have started.

I am concerned by the lack of progress in my neighborhood to address the needs of our residents. We need a leader who will bring everyone together and help a community hard hit by COVID-19 thrive.

District 9 needs a Councilor who is ready to work for everyone and bring services we need to the District. Everyone has an idea on how to make our neighborhood better. We need someone who can bring those ideas together and put solutions into action. It is time to step up, keep up and provide the services people need.

As Councilor, I will work on:

1. Cleaning up and rebuilding of Mary Dennison Park: This project is stalled and needs someone in our city government who is focused on making sure this park is safe for the neighborhood to use.
2. Supporting early education and programming for our youth: I will work with our Parks and Recreation Department to provide more programs and activities for our youth. We need to be there for our youth, and we aren’t as much as we should. Additionally, I will support all efforts by Framingham Public Schools to bring high quality full time early education to our students. This is about equity for all of our youth.

1. Supporting the construction of a community center: Everyone in our district should have the chance to gather at a community center. This has been promised for years, but nothing has happened. I am committed to working with the city to build a location where all can gather and a place for activities for all of our youth.
2. Addressing traffic and transportation issues: A few areas, like Blandin Avenue intersection, are some of the worst intersections in Framingham. I will work with the Traffic Commission and the Public Works Department to fix these issues, along with getting our roads and sidewalks updated and the area cleaned.
   

I spent the last month walking around District 9 and talking to so many people. I hear your frustrations about how nothing gets done or it is only done for “special” people. I hear the disappointment about the lack of activities and programs for our youth. I see how the city has
forgotten this area with the trash along the streets or the un mowed city property.

I am here for you. I am here for all of District 9. It was my honor to serve you two years ago, and I want to do that again.
