UPDATED: Due to Staffing Issues, Framingham Libraries Will Not Fully Open Until July

FRAMINGHAM – Due to staffing issues, the main Framingham Public Library and the Christa McAuliffe Library branch will not return to 100% staffing and 100% hours until July 1, announced the City of Framingham.

” The Main and Branch Libraries will return to pre-pandemic hours effective July 1 once fully staffed,” said the City in a press release today.

Current hours are:

• The Main Library, 49 Lexington Street, Framingham, MA 01702, is currently open Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-7 p.m., Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. with a Senior hour 9 a.m.-10 a.m.
• The Christa McAuliffe Branch, 746 Water Street, Framingham, MA 01701, is currently open Monday-Thursday: 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday: 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. with a Senior hour 9:30-10:30 a.m.

“For the time being, those entering the library are asked to continue to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status, due to the mingling of young people and older adults in an effort to keep people safe,” announced the City of Framingham in a press release today, May 26.

Presently, the City of Framingham is advertising for two library positions, and library pages.

No library staff were laid off during the pandemic, but there were four positions that were not funded.

The Library Director is expecting them to be funded for Fiscal year 2022, which starts July 1, 2021.

The Library Department, had a lot of staff turnover during the pandemic, due to early retirements and COVID-related turnover, as some older employees preferred not to come back.
