Framingham Director of Veterans Affairs Leaving

FRAMINGHAM – City of Framingham Director of Veterans Affairs Craig Sullivan confirmed with SOURCE he will be leaving the Spicer administration in the next couple of weeks.

June 1 is his last day, and it will be the last day for the Assistant Director of the Veterans Affairs. In essence, the entire department has resigned.

Sullivan will be the 10th department head in the Spicer administration since January 2020, to leave or announce his departure.

CFO Mary Ellen Kelley announced earlier this month she would retire as of June 29.

Since January 2020, the City has hired a new police chief, a new fire chief, a new DPW director, a new library director, a new highway & sanitation director, a new water & wastewater sewer director, is advertising for a new health director and is advertising for a new chief assessor.

Sullivan is not the only departure in the 2-person department.

Assistant Veterans Director Mark Lupisella is also leaving the City of Framingham, confirmed Sullivan.

A U.S. Coast Guard Veteran for more than 25 years, Sullivan was hired in 2016 as the Assistant Director.

When Director Peter Harvell left in 2017, he was named interim director.

In May 2018, Mayor Yvonne Spicer appointed Sullivan the new permanent director, but the City Council did not confirmed that appointment, as the position was not posted the required 30-days by the Director of Human Resources, and had to be withdrawn and re-advertised.

The position was re-posted, and Sullivan was permanently named the Veterans Director in the summer of 2018.
