Positive COVID & Quarantine Cases Limiting Framingham Postal Services

FRAMINGHAM – The COVID-19 pandemic is impacting the post office branches in Framingham. Almost a year after the pandemic started, and after an exhausting holiday rush, the virus is taking its toll on the department and its employees.

The Saxonville Post Office has been closed all of this week.

The Park Street Post Office in downtown Framingham has had no window services this week.

“With 644,000 employees nationwide, the Postal Service currently has more than 8,400 who are out of work due to testing positive for COVID. Add to that the employees who are rightfully quarantining because they’ve been in close contact with someone who has tested positive and those employees with child care or other COVID related issues that are taking time from work and, just like every other industry, our ranks are feeling the impact of this pandemic on available staffing,” said U.S. Postal Service spokesperson Steve Doherty.

“Due to the incredible dedication of our employees, where possible we are able to flex our resources and move personnel to other offices or work spaces to compensate for absences. However, there are scenarios that will cause an intermittent disruption of service, such as what is happening currently in Framingham,” said Doherty, who is the Strategic Communications Specialist for the Northeast Region of the U.S. Postal Service.

“Our main priority is to insure that each community has postal services available,” said Doherty to SOURCE.

The main Post Office at 330 Cochituate Road remains open for full retail and package service, said Doherty.

“The Park Street Branch, while not currently open for retail services, is open for PO Box customers and to retrieve packages,” explained Doherty.

“We’re hoping to reopen the Saxonville office in the next couple of days,” said Doherty.
