Douglas Samuel Newman, 88, a resident of Framingham and formerly Natick and East Dennis, died Monday, January 5, 2026 after a period of declining health. Born in Medway, he was the son of the late Douglas T. & Lynthel (Butler) Newman, and the beloved husband of the late Helen R. (Chandler) Newman.

Raised and educated in Natick, Douglas served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a licensed General Contractor and real estate agent and a commodities broker. Known for his hard work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, over the years he was the owner of Newman and Son General Contracting and Sprawling Hills Park. He and Helen raised their family in East Dennis.

Douglas was an honest man who always had a good dose of humor. He was the go-to for family and friends when it came to sound advice, always providing clarity without judgement. He led by example to always give 110%, to never give up, and made everyone feel there was nothing they couldn’t accomplish.

Douglas’ kindness, generosity and unconditional love for his family will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. He believed in building not just physical structures, but also relationships and memories that will stand the test of time.

Douglas is survived by his loving daughter, Laurie A. Newman of Naples, FL, his number one son, Michael D. Newman of Baton Rouge, LA. His beloved grandson Justin D. Farias of Boston, his brother, Francis, his sisters, Virginia Mayo, Dorothy Newman, Barbara Monroe & her husband Ronald, and Carol Ogle & her husband Ken, as well as countless nieces and nephews.

Besides the love of his life Helen, Douglas is predeceased by his cherished grandson, Jason J. Farias, his brothers, John, Roland, Henry, Theodore, Harvey and Stephen, and his sisters, Joan, and Eleanor.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Douglas’ life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Tuesday afternoon, January 14th from 4-7pm. His Funeral Services will be celebrated in the funeral home on Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in Dell Park Cemetery, Natick.
